August 4, 2018—Although the addition of Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) as a platform for professional and amateur mixed martial artists throughout Northern California has been rather recent, the Philippines-based promotion left a mark in the sport’s history in their thirty-fourth show, entitled: URCC Destiny.
URCC joined forces with Destiny Promotions, a Hawaiian MMA organization, to turn up the temperature inside the Craneway Pavilion with a hotbed of regional talent surrounding the Pacific Rim. Not only were new champions inked in the record books, a local legend, Tyson Griffin, rewrote the narrative of being a retired pioneer to one of continuing his pilgrimage.
Main Event: Tyson Griffin (17-8) vs. Jordan Bailey (6-4)
Absent from the cage since 2014, Griffin welcomed the challenge of Bailey, a rangier, younger, and more active opponent.
The two traded shots, but Griffin’s veteran savvy brought considerable pause to Bailey’s offense. Once all fifteen minutes expired, the judges unanimously favored Griffin, sending the former UFC contender back to the winner’s circle.
Anthony “The Antidote” Do (6-3) vs. Fritz Biagtan (4-1) for the URCC Strawweight Title
Back-and-forth would be an understatement when recounting AKA Sunnyvale’s Do versus Biagtan for the URCC Strawweight Title.
Based on the exchanges Do and Biagtan shared on the feet, much of the weight in their 115-pound frames can be found in their iron chins; scrambles on the ground resembled a see-saw. Changing the tide with the force of a tsunami, Do, without any strain in his face, swept Biagtan, sunk in a rear-naked choke, and was crowned the URCC Strawweight Champion—all in one fell swoop.
Brady “The Kung Fu Warrior” Huang (8-1) vs. Martin “The Spartan” Day (9-2) for the URCC Bantamweight Title
Day delivered considerable darkness to Richmond, CA from his tropical Hawaiian paradise after ending Huang’s undefeated run in his neck of the woods.
Tenderizing body shots from Day made for a short night. Approximately one-minute into the middle frame, a combination from “The Spartan” to the midsection sent the Bay Area native careening toward the canvas.
