While sidelined from competition following USADA’s detection of marijuana metabolites in her system, with an additional three-month suspension issued by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), Cynthia Calvillo (6-1) is, once again, abstracting her reality; only this time it’s with the use of some high-caliber instruction from Stan “The Man” Martyniouk (17-2).
During a recent training session, Calvillo was captured sharpening her combos with Martyniouk by Inside the Ropes (IRT) Boxing. The video clips showcase Calvillo, a viable threat to all the top ladies in the UFC’s strawweight division, responding to each order from “The Man” with a thunderous crack on the pads.
Over the course of Calvillo’s four-fight stint in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, she has evolved before the world’s eyes, transitioning from a game heavily reliant on submissions to one willing to stand fearlessly in a phone booth—highlighted by her performance against Joanne Calderwood, an accredited practitioner of Muay Thai, at UFC Fight Night 113. According to a post-training pic Martyniouk added to his Instagram, the Estonia-born bomber with more than a decade of experience inside the squared-circle was blinded by the bright potential of Team Alpha Male’s rising star:
Calvillo will be available to return to the Octagon on September 30, 2018.
