March 24, 2018—American Kickboxing Academy’s Favian Gutierrez won his first professional mixed martial arts match at Dragon House 28; unfortunately, it was due to a disqualification of his opponent, Carlton (CJ) Blackman, because of an illegal kick.
These two light heavyweight brutes from the Bay Area met in the middle of San Francisco’s Kezar Pavilion, and a wild exchange ended with a punt heard round the world:

Although Blackman initially believed he’d be bringing home a victory to El Nino Training Center, the officials, once Gutierrez was safely carried out of the cage and loaded into the back of an ambulance, announced the egregious strike was illegal and disqualified Blackman from the bout.
The knockout blow sparked a conversation on Twitter as to whether or not such an attack should be considered outside the boundaries of play while locked within a field wrapped in wire.
That should be legal, only reason it's not is to protect mma's "image"

It is… But it shouldn't be. Lit up like a Christmas tree and kicked like a football, as Pat Miletich might say. https://t.co/jHZiY38NNH

That should be legal if it’s a fight. I hate the rules. They say they put rules to protect fighters but fighters die from legal strikes so let’s stop pretending they are protecting fighters
