Twitter Reacts to Josh Emmett’s Vicious KO at #UFCWinnipeg

December 16, 2017—Josh Emmett (13-1) elevated from an unranked featherweight on the UFC’s roster to a leading candidate as a possible contender for the title with one left hook.

Everyone within Northern California’s confines were confident in Emmett’s ability to accept a short-notice contest against Ricardo ‘The Bully’ Lamas (18-6), the third-ranked 145-pounder in the UFC, and perform at an elite level, but the decade-long member of Team Alpha Male had to prove it to the world on FOX when the promotion entered Winnipeg, Canada.

From the onset of the co-main event affair, it was evident: Emmett was comfortable underneath MMA’s brightest lights. With an innate sense of belonging amongst the best-of-the-best, astute footwork, and well-timed onslaughts of offense, ‘The Bully’ was soon reduced to the roll of a victim. Before the close of the first-round, a wild exchange opened an optimal counter-attack from Emmett, a crisp left hook that sent Lamas into the dark lands and caused Twitter to glow with enthusiasm:

Although the odds of such an emphatic victory were outside the realm of perception, the California native was merely checking off another box on the road toward his destiny in mixed martial arts.

The down side to such a thrilling moment in combat sports history: Emmett, due to the restricted timeline of preparations for UFC on FOX 26, missed the necessary limit at the scale, which excluded him from earning a deserved Performance of the Night bonus. Fortunately, fight fans understood the gravity of Emmett dropping Lamas like a ton of bricks, and they recognized the reality for the remainder of the division:
