Maritza Sanchez: More Hungry Than Ever Leading In to Dragon House 26

Some mixed martial artists say they’re willing to give up an arm to secure a sanctioned scrap; Maritza Sanchez, an amateur on the rise, will sacrifice a limb without a second thought, at least figuratively, when dropping to the flyweight division at Dragon House 26 on August 12, 2017 to meet Audrey Reyes.

Prior to Dragon House’s return to its Bay Area lair at the Kezar Pavilion in San Francisco, California, Sanchez had only competed at 135-pounds and above. During a recent visit to the @norcalfightmma Podcast (link here), the newly minted 125-pounder discussed: the taste of exhilaration in the cage outweighed any sour feelings associated with a dramatic drop in daily caloric intake.

Demonstrating her desire to find a dance partner, Sanchez stated, “I wanted a fight, and there wasn’t any other fight I could get. I figured: why not just cut down?”

Although Sanchez has yet to visit the 125-pound weight class, the AB’s Dragon House representative itemized how she’ll arrive there with hints of professionalism, “I still have my regular meal plan going on. Eventually, I’m going to start cutting down that food. Two days before, I’m going to drink a lot of water. That’s all I’ve been drinking: water, water, water. At the end of the day, it’s going to all be a water weight cut. I’m going to go into the sauna, maybe do an epson salt bath. I train with the sauna suit and all that fun stuff.”

The only way to muffle the growl from Sanchez’s stomach is with a passionate war cry after having her hand raised in victory at Dragon House 26.
